CULTIVO EM ALÉIAS: UMA ALTERNATIVA PARA PEQUENOS AGRICULTORES

O cultivo em aléias (alley cropping) é uma técnica muito útil para melhorar os solos pobres, consistindo no plantio de árvores em fileiras devidamente espaçadas entre si, onde será feito o plantio das culturas agrícolas, no início da estação chuvosa. O principal objetivo desse sistema é a incorporação de matéria orgânica ao solo para o fornecimento de nutrientes as plantas por meio da adubação verde. As árvores utilizadas nesse sistema são geralmente leguminosas, por ter maior capacidade de fixação de nitrogênio e alta produção de biomassa, sendo periodicamente podadas como objetivo de fornecer adubo orgânico ao solo nas linhas com cultivo agrícola pela decomposição da fitomassa resultante das podas e servindo ainda como controle as plantas daninhas. Dessa forma, espera-se que o cultivo em aléias proporcione melhorias químicas, físicas e biológicas ao solo, visto que a adição de matéria orgânica ao solo melhora não somente suas propriedades químicas como também contribuem na agregação das partículas do solo e no estabelecimento de micro-organismo. O objetivo dessa revisão é abordar a contribuição das espécies leguminosas utilizadas em sistemas de aléias para a melhoria da produtividade das culturas em pequenas propriedades rurais, como também discutir a sua importância na melhoria das propriedades físicas, químicas e biológicas do solo.
